Ledger® Live: Login - Getting Started™

A concise, step-by-step presentation to help new users securely log in and get started with Ledger Live.

Overview

What is Ledger Live?

Ledger Live is the companion application for Ledger hardware wallets. It lets users manage accounts, send and receive cryptocurrencies, monitor portfolio balances, and install apps on their Ledger device. This presentation focuses on the login flow and first-time setup so you start safely.

Before you begin

  • Have your Ledger device (Nano S / Nano X) and its PIN ready.
  • Confirm you have your 24-word recovery phrase securely stored (never enter it into software).
  • Download Ledger Live only from the official site and verify signatures when available.

Step-by-step: Login & setup

1. Download & install

Visit the official Ledger Live download page and choose the correct package for your operating system. Run the installer and follow on-screen prompts.

2. Launch and accept terms

Open Ledger Live. Review the terms of use and privacy notice. Ledger Live will prompt you to connect your device or create/import an account.

3. Connect your Ledger hardware

Use the USB cable to connect your Ledger device. Unlock it with your PIN when prompted. Ledger Live will detect the device and guide you through the connection.

4. Add your first account

Choose the cryptocurrency you want to manage, then follow the on-screen steps to add an account. Ledger Live reads the public addresses from your device — your private keys never leave it.

5. Optional: Create a Ledger Live password

Ledger Live can be protected with a local password to prevent others with access to your computer from opening the app. This is different from your device PIN and recovery phrase.

6. Final checks

  • Confirm account balances and addresses directly on your Ledger device before sending funds.
  • Enable automatic updates for Ledger Live and firmware updates for your device.

Security tips (h5)

Keep recovery phrase offline

Never type, photograph, or share your recovery phrase. Store it on a hardware backup or steel plate for long-term safety.

Beware phishing

Double-check URLs, never follow unsolicited links, and use bookmarks for official Ledger pages. Ledger will never ask for your 24-word phrase over chat, email, or phone.

Troubleshooting & support

If Ledger Live does not detect your device, try a different USB cable or port, reboot your computer, and ensure your device firmware is up to date. Visit official support channels linked to the right for in-depth guides.
